It's been pretty hot here in the South Bay over the last few days. In addition, it's been uncannily warm in our house. A large part of it has to do with our attic. The main idea being that if the attic is not vented properly, the hot desert sun bakes the roof, heating the attic just like an oven. Being built in 1947, they didn't really understand the delicate thermal balance required in an attic for adequate dwelling temperature. That, or they weren't as big wimps as we are now. None the less, i threw a temperature probe up in the attic to see if in fact my theory was correct. Judge for yourself.
As you can see, there is a FORTY SIX degree difference between the house temperature and the attic temperature!! You'd have to be insane to think that makes NO difference in the 'warmth' of the house.
...so i've been fixing to get an attic fan. Either a powered one or one of those solar powered jobbies. I'll figure it out, get her done, and then post some pictures. I'll also include a couple of shots of the new temperature readings. Here's to cooler days ahead!
