the pot's hot
Two days ago i made a stew. Lots of fresh vegetables, potatoes, chicken, and a tasty assortment of spices. As the broth was brewing, i became curious. I really like cheese, and often chili is sprinkled with some shredded cheddar for taste. I say to myself, i want my soup to be more cheesy! I go ahead and dump half a bag of shredded cheese into the mix, thinking 'yum.' Ok. Half an hour later i pour the soup into another container to let it cool. Then i see the bottom of the pot. Uh-oh. It is black. Completely. Thick, charcoal, crusted on burnt cheese. I try scrubbing with sponge. No dice. I let it soak for a few hours with soap and water and lunge at it with a spoon, scraping and scratching as hard as I could. Nothing. This stuff isn't coming off, no matter what! Now since i'm sharing an apartment, this happens to be my roommate’s pot. Great. Just great. No soup is worth this! I start hunting for stronger chemicals, perhaps even a brillo pad. And then i see it. A bottle of all purpose 409 cleaner. Will this work? I dunno. I pour enough into the pot to cover the bottom, and i let it sit. Not expecting much when i returned a few hours later, i decided to take the good ol' spoon and see it i could maybe, just maybe, scrape a little bit off. Gasp!! To my surprise, as i move the spoon across the bottom of the pot, the gunk amazingly just lets go! I couldn't believe my eyes! A few scrapes later the bottom of the pot is fully exposed, shiny as ever! I thought the pot was gone for sure. I am now a true believer. Go Clorox... go Clorox.... it's your birthday...
