The multi-touch media wall (video link)
This is basically a giant wall that has a rear projector and a touch sensitive surface. The idea is simple, but the implementation is amazing. It is something straight out of the movie Minority Report. A previous example of this was Microsoft’s home table; this is on a much larger scale. Will every home have one of these in the future?
Fab at home fabrication (video link)
Here we have a machine that you can build to create almost anything you can think of. The demo video shows the inventors using silicone which dries into a soft rubber. You can fill the machine with almost any liquid, and it’s only a matter of time before there is material which can result in hard plastic.
Windbelt (video link)
Previously if you wanted to take advantage of wind power, you needed massive turbines that operated on gears to turn mechanical generators. Not any more. This inventor has taken advantage of the known phenomenon of vibration due to wind. It is a taut membrane fitted with a pair of magnets that oscillate between two metal coils. Prototypes have generated 40 milliwatts in 10-mph slivers of wind, making his device 10 to 30 times as efficient as the best microturbines. In addition, there are essentially no moving parts, so this could work forever.
